Quota Share Commercial Fisheries Update

The 2015 quota share halibut fisheries opened on March 14. It is estimated that the following commercial landings, in pounds and numbers, were made in the Alaskan IFQ fishery and in the British Columbian IVQ fishery during the 2015 commercial season, which closed on November 7.

The 2015 quota share halibut fisheries opened on March 14. It is estimated that the following commercial landings, in pounds and numbers, were made in the Alaskan IFQ fishery through October 14, 2015 and in the British Columbian IVQ fishery through October 13, 2015.

The 2015 quota share halibut fisheries opened on March 14. It is estimated that the following commercial landings, in pounds and numbers, were made in the Alaskan IFQ fishery through September 14, 2015 and in the British Columbian IVQ fishery through September 11, 2015.

The 2015 total allowable incidental commercial catch of halibut allocated to the limited entry, fixed gear sablefish fishery, which operates in Area 2A north of Point Chehalis, Washington, is 10,347 pounds. Incidental catch of halibut in the sablefish fishery was allowed beginning April 1. Recent projections indicate that the allocation has been harvested. Fishers participating in this fishery will be prohibited from retaining any Pacific halibut effective 12:01 AM on September 1, 2015 and for the remainder of the 2015 season.

The total allowable incidental commercial catch of halibut allocated to the Area 2A salmon troll fishery is 29,035 pounds. Incidental catch of halibut in the salmon troll fishery was allowed beginning April 1. Recent projections indicate the allocation has been harvested. The Area 2A incidental commercial halibut fishery during the salmon troll season will close at 11:59 PM on August 20, 2015. Vessels in possession of any Pacific halibut must cease fishing for salmon until all Pacific halibut have been offloaded. All Pacific halibut must be landed and delivered no later than 11:59 PM Friday, August 21, 2015.
