Current IPHC Responsibilities:
Survey manager: I am responsible for managing the IPHC stock assessment survey program. I supervise a team of 3 who I work to implement the fisheries independent assessment survey. As Survey Manager I also direct the contracting of our vessels and upon which we deploy our seasonal field employees. Additionally, I am responsible for duties relating to survey design, operations, data analysis, documentation, and finances.
I graduated in 1983 from the University of Victoria, BC with a degree in marine biology/zoology. Several summers at the Bamfield Marine Station cemented my interest in working in the marine environment. After spending a summer deployed to a field camp, salmon tagging and conducting stream surveys for tag recovery, I applied for work with the IPHC. In 1986 I began working as a summer technician. I spent over 20 summers at sea on research and survey vessels with the IPHC. Over the course of my career I was an age reader, supervised the tagging program, became the Canadian port sampler supervisor in 1992 and eventually moved into the survey program. In 2006 I became the survey coordinator and in 2016 I was hired as the survey manager.
