2020 Pacific Halibut Landings

Quota Share Commercial Fisheries

The 2020 quota share Pacific halibut fisheries opens on 14 March 2020. The following commercial landings, by weight and number of landings, have been reported from the Alaskan Individual Fishing Quota (IFQ) and Community Development Quota (CDQ) fisheries and from the British Columbian Individual Vessel Quota (IVQ) fishery to date.

NON-TREATY DIRECTED COMMERCIAL PACIFIC HALIBUT FISHERY

The Regulatory Area 2A non-treaty directed commercial fishery began at 0800 hours on the fourth Monday in June (22 June 2020) and terminated at 1800 hours local time on the subsequent Wednesday (24 June 2020). The Commission announced four subsequent 58-hour fishing periods that commenced on 6 July, 20 July, 3 August, and 17 August.


COMMERCIAL TREATY INDIAN FISHERIES

In 2020, the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) allocated 223.53 t, 492,800 lb, of Pacific halibut for commercial use to the Treaty Indian tribes of IPHC Regulatory Area 2A. Opening dates for the unrestricted and restricted fisheries were at the discretion of the respective tribes.


INCIDENTAL COMMERCIAL PACIFIC HALIBUT FISHERY DURING THE SALMON TROLL SEASON

The total allowable incidental commercial catch of Pacific halibut allocated to the IPHC Regulatory Area 2A salmon troll fishery was 20.37 t, 44,899 lb. For details on incidental fishery retention information, call the NMFS hotline (1 800-662-9825 press 7 for Pacific halibut information).


INCIDENTAL COMMERCIAL PACIFIC HALIBUT FISHERY DURING THE LIMITED ENTRY, FIXED-GEAR SABLEFISH FISHERY

The total allowable incidental commercial catch of Pacific halibut allocated to the limited entry, fixed-gear sablefish fishery, which operates in IPHC Regulatory Area 2A north of Point Chehalis, Washington, was 31.75 t, 70,000 lb.
